Patrick to swear in Quincy’s first Asian-American judge Monday

Posted May 08, 2010

Yee, a lawyer who lives in Brookline and spent 23 years in private practice, will become the court’s first Asian-American judge.

A ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Kwong Kow Chinese School, 87 Tyler St., Boston.

Patrick appointed Yee in November to replace retired Judge Gregory Baler.

In his private practice, Yee concentrated on civil and criminal cases involving clients in the Asian community in Boston and Quincy, according to a program for Monday’s event.

The event’s speakers include Superior Court Judge Richard G. Chin; president of Yee Fung Toy Association of New England Jimmy Ho-Lee Yee; president of the Asian American Civic Association Mary C. Chin; and appellate court Justice Fernande R.V. Duffly.

Yee, a former Suffolk County prosecutor, started his legal career in New York, working as a lawyer with Brooklyn Legal Services before being hired by the Boston Housing Authority.

Yee has served as a mediator.

He graduated from Northeastern University and Suffolk University School of Law.
