Got Kimchi?

Asian Diversity Magazine

From its strong aromas to its bold flavoring to its speculated ability to fight off numerous illnesses, Kimchi has become a symbolic fixture of sorts in Korean cuisine. If one is curious (or hungry) enough to learn more about Kimchi and other Korean foods, join Asia Society as it presents "Kimchi, Kimbap & Kalbi: Korean Cuisine Captures America's Palate," the fifth in its ongoing Asian food series on Jan. 17.

Whether it’s Kimchi, Sushi, Roti, Nasi or Shumai, you can learn more at Asia Society through a series of extremely popular and engaging food programs, each focusing on the culinary traditions of a specific Asian region. "Kimchi, Kimbap & Kalbi: Korean Cuisine Captures America's Palate," the fifth in this ongoing series, will take place at Asia Society on Jan. 17 at 7:00 p.m. Programs feature a panel of leading chefs, restaurateurs, and food critics in lively discussion about the cuisine's history, presence in restaurants in the U.S., and impact on other culinary trends locally and abroad. Discussions are followed by tastings with food from area restaurants. Former food programs at Asia Society include "Dim Sum and then Some", "Currying Favor," "If You Knew Sushi Like We Knew Sushi" and "A Journey Along Southeast Asia's Spice Trail."

Join moderator James Oseland, Editor-in-Chief of Saveur, and other distinguished food experts for an exciting discussion of these topics as Asia Society turns the spotlight on Korean cuisines. Other panelists include David Chang, Chef, Momofuku Noodle Bar and Ssam Bar; Hi Soo Shin Hepinstall, Chef and Author, Growing Up in a Korean Kitchen; Dan Reiser, General Manager, Woo Lae Oak; and Rachel Yang, Chef, Coupage.
