Spotlight On Keiko Harvey

Chan Cho

Keiko Harvey has been named one of the 'Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business,' by the Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC).

Harvey was born in Japan and came to the United States when she was 17 years old. A graduate of Rutgers College of Engineering, today Harvey is Verizon's senior vice president of Advanced Services and is responsible for the company's consumer and small-business digital subscriber line (DSL) and dial-up Internet services, as well as building its nationwide long-distance network. Prior to her appointment last year, Harvey was president and CEO of Verizon Global Networks Inc., a Verizon subsidiary responsible for developing and operating the company's long-distance network.

Harvey has received wide recognition for her contributions to the business community. Her honors include the Tribute to Women in Business Award; the New Jersey Women of Achievement Award and the Asian American Achievement Award from the Asian American Heritage Council of New Jersey.

'Keiko Harvey represents leadership at its best,' said John Wang, president of the AABDC. 'During her 30-year career with Verizon, she advanced from an entry-level engineering job to lead one of the company's most visible business units. We salute Keiko for her achievements and commend Verizon for its support of multicultural employees.'

AABDC, which supports Asian American entrepreneurs in the New York metropolitan area, selected Harvey for her outstanding leadership and business expertise.

'Being named one of the outstanding 50 Asian Americans in business is a special honor,' said Harvey. 'Many skills contribute to success in business, but the key ingredient is customer satisfaction. If you meet the needs of your customers, you'll be on the road to success.'
