Apologies to Miller High Life, but Pabst Blue Ribbon is the real champagne of beers. $3 PBR specials abound at every hipster dive in New York and the blue-collar brand has garnered the elusive street-cred that separates it from the others in the schwag-beer category. So big kudos to PBR for re-inventing itself as a luxury item in China, where you can buy a bottle of Blue Ribbon 1844 for $44, which is more than 2 days salary for the average Chinese worker.

Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas's girlfriend is Sara Carbonero, a 25-year old sports journalist who was voted sexiest journalist in the world, though we don't really know how that poll was conducted and whether lads in Tajikistan were allowed to vote.

Well, Spain lost 1-0 to the Swiss this week, and Iker had the pleasure of being interviewed by his girlfriend on live TV after the match. Pics, video (in Spanish) and story here.

You can watch the vid, but she basically cut to the point and asked him, "How could you muck this up?"  Ouch. They probably won't be mucking around for a long while after that public humiliation.

Korean TV dramas find new fans, outlets with online video:  DramaFever Web site delivers shows via Hulu

A samurai movie crossed with the TV series "24" and "The West Wing." If that's not your fancy, how about "Anne of Green Gables" meets cooking show "Iron Chef"?

Those are some of the ways American viewers describe their favorite Korean TV dramas, a genre that has amassed a small but dedicated audience across the U.S., including in Chicago.

Newser: To Attract Women, Eat Celery

Though the makers of Axe body spray would like you to believe otherwise, the secret to attracting women may be as easy as opening your fridge. The authors of a new health book claim that eating celery boosts the pheromone levels in a man's sweat, making him more appealing to the fairer sex. That's because celery contains androstenone, a naturally occurring steroid; upping your concentration of it should increase pheromone secretion.

The would-be vegetable Viagra also reportedly ramps up sex drive and can intensify one's climax, reports Asylum. "We recommend that a guy work out, have a nice warm shower, chomp on a few sticks of celery, brush his teeth, and then head out the door smelling good," says one of the authors, who actually seems to be giving Axe a boost after all.

So I'm linking to a HuffPo summary of an article on WebMD, but it's worth the read.  Another verrry good reason to get sufficient shut-eye!

Woman 'gets Chinese accent after bad migraine'

LONDON (AFP) – A Plymouth woman has suddenly started speaking with a Chinese accent after suffering a severe migraine, she said in comments quoted by local media Tuesday.

Sarah Colwill believes she has Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS) which has caused her distinctive West Country drawl to be replaced with a Chinese twang, even though she has never even visited the country.

Here it is: the ideal life - for a guy, of course (via reddit).

Thursday March 25, 2010

March 22 was World Water Day. 1.1 billion people in this world don't have access to clean drinking water, including 30 million Americans if you believe this guy.  This person asks if you would eat a $10,000 sandwich wrapped in toxic plastic wrap - the analogy is a little iffy, but she gets her point across. And this 2009 report by Mother Jones puts me in a moral dilemma, because it feels so right in my mouth and going down. Seems like the earth-conscious move is to buy one of these so you can drink your tap water, store it in a glass pitcher, and use this to get your bubbles. Then take the money you saved and send it to people trying to help those 1,100,000,000 persons without access to clean water, like these guys.

Photo Outtakes from the NYT Dining feature about killing and eating rabbits

"We needed a cover image that would carefully illustrate this sensitive topic. We wanted to avoid being cute and avoid being cruel."

The 7 foods experts won't eat

How healthy (or not) certain foods are—for us, for the environment—is a hotly debated topic among experts and consumers alike, and there are no easy answers. But when Prevention talked to the people at the forefront of food safety and asked them one simple question—“What foods do you avoid?”—we got some pretty interesting answers. Although these foods don’t necessarily make up a "banned” list, as you head into the holidays—and all the grocery shopping that comes with it—their answers are, well, food for thought:
